B Brothers Honey

custom image

B Brothers Honey is owned and operated by the same beekeeper who bottles every jar of our delicious honey - Nick Ibrahimoglu. Nick has an unmatched enthusiasm for natural healthy produce, and premium uncompromising quality.

100% locally sourced from Queensland and New South Wales, B Brothers Honey has hives from the Gold Coast Hinterland to Byron Bay. Nick’s passion for natural goodness is reflected in all B Brothers Honey products - raw and pesticide free, our honey is taken directly from the hive to the bottle.

B Brothers Honey is cold extracted and packed at temperatures lower than the beehive itself. By using this traditional method, although it takes longer to pour, our honey retains all of its crucial enzymes, anti-bacterial properties and nutritional value.

Many other brands heat their honey at a high temperature (pasteurised) to ensure they get fast pouring and easy filtering. Pasteurisation such as this may make their honey look smoother, clearer, and more appealing on the shelf - but it also compromises quality and nutritional benefits.

Pure honey, pure Manuka. Delivering the best to you, our honey is non blended - what Nick is given from his bees goes straight into the bottle.

Nick and all of B Brothers Honey are dedicated to supporting the local community. Our honey is not just sourced locally, it is also supplied to health food and community conscious stores across the Gold Coast and Byron Bay areas.

As well as working with local stores, Nick regularly takes his pure honey products to local markets and events - sharing his passion and knowledge directly with the community.

What is Manuka Honey?

Manuka honey is produced exclusively from the nectar of the tree  Leptospermum - simply known as the Manuka tree. This unique variety of honey native to Australia and New Zealand has become famous  worldwide. The name Manuka is synonymous not only with the full rich flavour of Manuka honey, but also with the honey’s power to stimulate the natural healing processes of the body.

The Manuka tree is native to Australia. It is here that the species originally evolved before eventually spreading to other parts of the world. Today there are over 80 different species of the plant native to Australia, all of which produce Manuka honey.

Australian Manuka honey, also known as Jellybush honey, has the unique advantage of not only utilising the most active and powerful Manuka plant species, it also is produced with some of the healthiest bees in the world. Australia is the last remaining country not infested with the disease-carrying Varroa mite. Free from this parasite, our bees are naturally healthier and unlike other beekeeping countries, the use of miticides in our hives is not necessary.

It is for all these reasons that Australian Manuka honey is considered to be the original, purest, and most powerful variety of Manuka honey the world over.

In addition to the great taste of Australian Manuka Honey, it is perhaps best known for its natural antibacterial and nutritional properties. These health benefits are attributed to the unique capacity of Manuka honey to maintain its antibacterial activity, even after it is removed from the hive. This ‘activity’ is described as Non Peroxide Antibacterial Activity (NPA).

Different varieties of Manuka honey can be rated according to their level of NPA - and by extension, their level of antibacterial effectiveness. There are three primary ratings used to describe the unique antibacterial activity of Manuka honey - they are: NPA, UMF®, and MGO

More recent studies of Manuka honey have determined that there is a direct relationship between antibacterial activity and the concentration of the compound methylglyoxal (MGO). This chemical marker measured in parts per million (ppm), is now used as an indicator of the strength of activity within Manuka honey. The bigger the number the more active the honey.

Some suggested uses for Manuka honey include topical application for wound care including burns, bites and stings, as well as for superficial cuts and scratches. As an additional benefit, Manuka honey is also safe to use on family pets and can be used to treat conditions similar to those mentioned prior.

Great news for those who enjoy cooking and baking, as Manuka honey is a wonderful alternative for processed sugar; being an easy substitute in recipes such as muffins and cakes.
